Fig 1:  To remove the body, first remove the couplers. Then rock and pull the body upward. It is hard to remove the first time due to spacers on each end of the weights. These can be pulled out to make it easier the next time you need to take the shell off.

Fig 2: Remove the NMRA jumper plug from the PC board. On this model, I also replaced the blue/white LED’s with Golden White LED’s, using the same resistors supplied by Atlas.

Fig 3: Before installing the decoder, pull the wires out of the way that are tucked in by the NMRA plug. The TCS DP5X plugs right in to the socket as shown. Then the wires can be tucked back in.

Fig 4: The close up photo shows the orientation of the decoder. If you plug it in backwards, the loco will run backwards and the lights won’t work, but it won’t damage the decoder. After it’s plugged in, put the shell and the couplers back on and it’s ready to go.
